Anna Daki began photographing in 2009, and from the very start, her work centred on women who inspired her, driven by a lasting fascination with the female body and with ideas of femininity. The earliest images in the book date from 2019. Between 2022 and 2025, Daki returned every year to the lakes around Berlin and to Mallorca, places of calm, intimacy and escape where the series took shape. She photographs her subjects in a pure, raw and almost poetic form of authenticity. Water is the element that binds the book together, visually and symbolically. It led Daki back to the myths of her childhood and to the Nereids, the powerful sea nymphs who give the book its title, figures in whom femininity, nature and strength are one.

In 2024, following a first shoot with renowned floral artist Garance du Nord, the project evolvedfurther and another part of the story unfolded. Daki began to intertwine photographs of the female body with flowers as a broader reflection on femininity.Woven through the pages, three inserts printed on a lighter paper form a book within the book: a parallel story that carries the same paradox of strength and softness, united by beauty and bywater, the original source of all life. The book opens with a powerful manifesto by writer Alexandra Bondi de Antoni, a friend of the photographer, with whom she shares a deep love of literature and common references that shape the way they view the world: "They tell us we should be as delicate as flowers. Don't they know

that flowers break through concrete?"
